Collection: Cascabel

This striking collection is made in collaboration with Hernesto Jiménez, a master craftsman from El Rosario, Tonalá, in the state of Jalisco. Learning at the knee of his mother, Hernesto began his lifelong study of pottery. Using a process unique to Tonalá culture, pieces are carefully removed from the kiln while still smoldering, and immediately immersed into leaves. This literally smokes the pottery, rendering it completely black. The hand of the craftsman can be felt in the grooves of each piece, echoing the snake’s rattle.
