Our stunning gilded decorative gourds bring a warm glow to any interior space. Known as xicaras, these lacquered pieces have traditionally been used as drinking and eating vessels dating back to pre-hispanic times. The lacquer technique has changed very little over the centuries and is achieved from mixing different minerals and soils with chia oil and applying layer after layer over a period of several months. Each piece is hand crafted by Cristobal Santos in his family run workshop in Temalacatzingo a village located in the mountains of Guerrero Mexico."
